MEET THE AUTHOR
Katie Schaeffer is a storyteller who believes in a world where commonality brings us together. After an accomplished career in PR and communications—where her writing largely consisted of corporate blogs and press releases—she found her true creative calling inspired by her role as a mother to two curious children, Luke and Grace.
Drawing on her years of leadership in local community-building and advocacy groups, Katie writes to foster empathy, critical thinking and shared humanity. She is a firm believer in the power of picture books to spark honest, important discussions, reminding us all that we can often look to the youngest among us for the right path forward.
In her book, Red Elephants and Blue Donkeys, Katie translates complex social and political themes into a vibrant, humorous narrative that kids and parents alike can relate to. When she isn’t writing, she is likely planning her next family trip, experimenting in the kitchen or getting lost in a good book at her home in Austin, Texas.
